Frequently asked questions
GI certification, payments, shipping, returns, care, and selling — answered.
Authenticity & provenance
What does "GI-tagged" mean?
A Geographical Indication (GI) is India's legal certification that a craft genuinely originates from a specific region and is made by its traditional community — like Madhubani painting from Bihar or Bidriware from Karnataka. We show GI status on every qualifying product.
Are the products really handmade?
Yes. Every piece is made by hand by Indian artisans. Natural variation in colour, grain, and finish is normal — it is the signature of genuine handwork, not a flaw.
How do I know who made my piece?
Each product lists its craft, region, and maker community. We are steadily adding individual artisan profiles too.
Orders & payment
What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept Cash on Delivery (COD) across India. Additional online payment options — UPI, cards, and net banking — are being rolled out shortly. International customers, please email us to arrange payment.
Are Indian orders priced inclusive of GST?
Yes — prices shown on the site include all applicable taxes for India. No extra tax is added at checkout for domestic orders. International orders may attract import duties or taxes in the destination country; these are payable by the recipient.
Can I cancel or modify my order?
You can request a cancellation or modification within 12 hours of placing your order by emailing support@vedikcraft.com with your order number. Once the piece has been dispatched, cancellations are no longer possible. Custom and made-to-order items cannot be cancelled after production begins. See our full cancellation policy.
Shipping & returns
How long does shipping take?
Within India: dispatched in 2–5 business days; delivery typically 3–8 days. International: typically 7–18 business days depending on destination and customs. Made-to-order items may show a longer dispatch window on the product page. You will receive tracking as soon as your order ships.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes — we ship across India and worldwide. International orders may attract import duties or taxes in the destination country; these are payable by the recipient. We include accurate HS codes and craft descriptions to help customs processing go smoothly.
What is your return policy?
Report any damage or defect within 7 days of delivery with a photo and we will arrange a replacement or full refund. Items that arrive not as described are also eligible. Natural handmade variation is not a defect and is not grounds for return. Custom or made-to-order pieces are non-returnable unless they arrive damaged. Full details on the returns & refunds page.
Your handmade piece
What are made-to-order items and how long do they take?
Many of our pieces — especially larger metalwork, woven textiles, and pottery — are made fresh for each order by the artisan. The product page will say so and show the dispatch lead time (typically 5–15 additional business days). Made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled after production has begun and are non-returnable unless they arrive damaged.
How do I care for my handmade piece?
Care varies by craft — follow any enclosed care card. General guidance:
- Wood & papier-mâché: keep away from prolonged moisture; wipe dry after handling.
- Metalwork (Bidri, Dhokra, brass): wipe dry after handling; polish occasionally with a soft cloth.
- Textiles (Banarasi, Kalamkari): dry-clean or gentle hand-wash; store folded in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Pottery & glass: hand-wash only; avoid microwaving unless labelled safe.
When in doubt, email us and we will share craft-specific care advice.
Do you offer gift wrapping or personalised messages?
Gift packaging is available on selected items — look for the gift-wrap option on the product page. For a personalised gift message, add a note at checkout or email us after placing your order.
Selling on VedikCraft
I'm an artisan — can I sell here?
Absolutely. Read Sell on VedikCraft or email sellers@vedikcraft.com.
How does VedikCraft make money if artisans pay no fees?
VedikCraft adds its own margin on top of the artisan's listed price. Buyers pay the retail price; artisans receive their listed price in full. This keeps the artisan's income predictable and transparent — they never see a deduction on their payout. See our pricing & fees page for a worked example.
