Copper and Brass Water Bottles, Matkas and Tanks
tambe ki bottle · copper bottle · pital ka matka · brass water bottle · water tank · tamba bottle
About these pieces
Water storage in metal, from a bottle for the office bag to a matka for the kitchen counter. Copper is the largest group (38), followed by brass (23), with four silver plated and four stainless steel pieces. Most stand between 7 and 15 inch and weigh from 200 g to about 2.26 kg empty.
Choose by capacity first. Bottles here are listed in sizes such as 550 ml and 750 ml, and matkas go up to 9 litre. A bottle is for one person through the day. A matka or tank with a tap serves a family or an office and needs a stand and a fixed place, because a full 9 litre vessel is heavy to move. Then check the mouth: a wide mouth is easier to clean by hand.
Many families store drinking water in copper overnight, as their parents did. Use these vessels for plain water only. Do not keep juice, lemon water, milk or anything sour in copper or brass. Clean the inside with lemon and salt or tamarind once a week, rinse well and dry with the cap off.
