About this piece

This is a hanging temple bell, or ghanti, cast in pure brass and finished to a polished shine. It stands 3 inches high and weighs 140 grams, and it is made in Moradabad. Hang it by the door of a puja room or a home temple so each ring marks the entry.

Dust it with a dry cloth after the puja. For tarnish, rub gently with lemon and a pinch of salt, rinse, and dry at once. It suits a puja room, Diwali, or a housewarming gift.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
