Choose a size that fits the mandir and can be lifted and bathed with a lota. A 3 to 6 inch Shivling on a base suits most home shrines.
Which way should the jalhari point?
Traditionally north. Many families follow this, and the spout is where the abhishek water runs out.
Where should Nandi be placed?
Nandi traditionally faces the Shivling, with the Shivling in front of him. Place the Nandi on the same base or a separate small stand opposite the Shivling.
Which items are used for abhishek?
Water, milk, curd, honey and ghee, with a lota and a small bowl. Bathe the idol gently and dry it before the flowers and bilva leaves are placed.
