About this collection

This page holds 265 aluminium idols from ₹175, in sizes up to 44 inch. Every piece here is aluminium, not brass. Half of them cost ₹1,155 or less, and the largest go up to ₹59,950.

Be clear on what aluminium is. It is cast in Moradabad in the same way as brass, but the metal is much lighter and lower priced. The colour you see is a painted or plated finish over the casting, often in gold, silver or bright colours. That makes it a sensible choice in three cases: a wall hanging, where low weight is a real advantage; a large idol on a small budget; and a piece for a shop, office or event where it will be seen more than handled. On this page there is a Ganesh in a pagadi at 7.5 inch, a Panchmukhi Hanuman at 5.8 inch, a Krishna with flute at 4 inch, a Laddu Gopal on a jhula at 6.5 inch and 300 g, wall hangings of Buddha at 8.4 inch and Shreenath Ji at 8 inch, and Laxmi Ganesh pairs. Weights run from 30 g to 23.38 kg.

Know the limits too. Do not use an aluminium idol for abhishek with acidic liquids such as lemon water, curd or panchamrit, because acid attacks both the finish and the metal. Plain water is fine if you dry the idol at once. Clean with a dry soft cloth only, with no lemon, tamarind or brass polish. If you want an idol for daily abhishek, or one to hand down, choose brass instead.

Good to know

What is the difference between an aluminium idol and a brass idol?
Aluminium is much lighter and lower priced, and it carries a painted or plated finish. Brass is heavier, costs more and can be polished back to its own colour.
Can I do abhishek on an aluminium idol?
Not with acidic liquids such as lemon water, curd or panchamrit. Plain water is fine if you dry the idol at once.
How do I clean an aluminium idol?
Wipe with a dry soft cloth. Do not use lemon, tamarind or brass polish, which damage the finish.
Why choose aluminium for a wall hanging?
Low weight. An 8 inch aluminium wall hanging puts far less load on the nail and the wall than a brass piece of the same size.
How much do aluminium idols cost?
From ₹175 to ₹59,950. Half the idols on this page are ₹1,155 or less.
Will the finish last?
Indoors and kept dry, the finish holds well. Outdoors, or with regular washing, a painted or plated surface will wear sooner than bare brass.
