About this piece

This aluminium pooja bell, or ghanti, weighs 360 grams and is polished in Moradabad. Its clear ring suits a puja room, a temple entrance, or a corridor. The body is light enough to hang with a small hook.

Wipe with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water. Aluminium scratches easily, so avoid scouring pads. It is a light gift for a puja room or a new home.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
