About this piece

This brass glass for Diwali is polished and made in Moradabad from pure brass. It suits water or chhaach at a festive table. The finish is even along the rim and base.

Rinse with warm water and dry the outside with a cloth. Avoid leaving acidic drinks in it for long. It is a festive gift for Diwali or a wedding.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.

Is brass safe for cooking and eating?

Yes with kalai (tin lining) on cookware, which our kadhais and handis carry. Avoid cooking tomato, tamarind or lemon in uncoated brass. Glasses and thalis are safe for water and dry food.

How do I clean brass utensils?

Lemon and salt or Pitambari after use, rinse and dry. Dishwashers and bleach pit the metal.

What is the weight?

Listed in grams on every piece; brass utensils are sold by weight and thicker walls last longer.

Do sets come in one carton?

Yes, glass and bowl sets ship together within two working days.

Can I re-tin the kalai?

Yes, a kalai wallah re-tins cookware every one to two years; most towns still have one before Diwali.
