Brass Saraswati Idols (Saraswati Mata ki Murti)
Saraswati murti · Saraswati Mata · Sharda Maa · Veena Vadini · pital ki murti
About these pieces
Saraswati is the goddess of learning, music and speech. She is shown seated with the veena across her lap, a book and a mala in her other hands, and her swan beside her. Heights run from about 1.5 inch to 24 inch.
Where she is kept decides the size. Students and teachers keep a 3 to 3.5 inch idol on the study table; the ones here weigh 220 g to 300 g and take very little space. For a home mandir or a music room, around 9 inch is a good presence without crowding a shelf. Schools, institutes and music academies buy the large pieces, which go up to about 28.5 kg and need a proper pedestal.
The veena is the detail to check. Its neck and the fingers on the strings are fine castings, so look for clean, unbroken lines in the photos, and never lift the idol by the veena. Hold it from the base with both hands.
