Pooja Thali and Puja Plates (Brass, Copper and Steel)
pooja thali · aarti thali · puja ki thali · pital ki thali · tambe ki thali · thali set
About these pieces
A pooja thali is the plate that carries the diya, roli, rice, flowers and prasad to the deity. The metals are mixed: 49 are pure brass, 23 are copper, 12 are stainless steel and 5 are aluminium. Listed sizes run from small 3.2 inch plates to large thalis of 19.8 inch, and some come as a boxed set.
Size the thali to what it must hold. A small plate is enough for a daily tilak and a single diya. For aarti with a diya, bell, incense holder and bowls, most buyers look at around 8.6 to 11.5 inch. The largest thalis are for a havan, a wedding ritual or a temple. Then look at the weight, from about 20 g to 1.33 kg. A steel thali of 8.6 inch here weighs only 140 g, which is easy to hold through a long aarti. A heavier brass thali is steadier when it carries a lit diya.
Kumkum and haldi stain brass and copper if left on. Wash the thali the same day.
