About this piece

This copper achmani for pooja weighs 10 grams. Made in Moradabad from copper and polished, it is a small cup for a puja. The shape is light and simple.

Rinse with clean water after each use and dry it fully. Wipe with a soft cloth and avoid harsh scouring. It is a traditional gift for a puja set. It also suits a child's puja set.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.
