Fifteen days after Diwali comes the Diwali of the gods. On Kartik Purnima, Tuesday 24 November 2026, ghats along the Ganga from Varanasi to Patna are lined with lamps, and households light diyas at the door, the tulsi and the water place for deep daan. The count is traditionally 11, 21 or 51.
Brass diyas are reused every year and do not tip on a windy ghat the way clay ones do. This page has single diyas by the piece, sets, and the deeper kuber and kamal deepaks that burn through the evening.

What is Dev Deepawali?
The festival of lights on Kartik Purnima, celebrated 15 days after Diwali, when the gods are said to descend to the Ganga. Varanasi is its centre, but diyas are lit in homes everywhere.
How many diyas on Kartik Purnima?
Odd numbers: 11 at home is common, 21 or 51 for a ghat or temple. One diya is floated on the river or a bowl of water as deep daan.
Which oil for ghat diyas?
Mustard oil, which burns longer outdoors. Ghee for the mandir diya.
Can I float a brass diya?
Small flat brass diyas float on a leaf or a wooden plate; the tortoise diyas sit in an urli of water.
