About this piece

This brass hanging temple bell, or ghanti, is 5.5 inches high and weighs 1,900 grams. It is pure brass, polished and made in Moradabad, and hangs at a door or a puja room. The bell gives a clear ring when struck.

Wipe with a dry cloth after each use and keep the bell dry. Clean tarnish with lemon and salt, then rinse. It is a fitting gift for a temple or a home mandir.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

How do I keep it clean?
Rinse after use, dry at once, and polish monthly with lemon and salt or Pitambari. Lacquered pieces need only a dry cloth.
