Our story
Vedikcraft started with one question: why does a brass urli cost three times more in a Jaipur showroom than in the Moradabad workshop that made it?
The answer is the chain. The workshop sells to an exporter’s agent, who sells to a trader, who sells to a distributor, who sells to the shop. Each step adds a margin and takes away the maker’s name. By the time the piece reaches you, nobody can tell you who cast it, how thick the walls are, or whether the brass is pure.
What we do differently
We buy from the workshops in the craft towns themselves and sell to you with one margin in between. We started in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where brass has been cast since the 1600s and which holds a Geographical Indication tag for its metal craft. Saharanpur wood carving, Khurja pottery and Jaipur block print are next, one town at a time, when we have the workshops and the quality in place.
What you can expect on every listing
- The hub. Where the piece was made, with the craft technique and GI tag where the craft has one.
- The weight. Brass is sold by weight. We show it, because thin brass looks the same in a photo and sounds dull when you tap it.
- The finish. Lacquered or raw, so you know whether it needs polishing.
- The workshop. Where the family agrees, their name and a line about them.
Who runs this
Vedikcraft is built and run from Kota, Rajasthan, by a small team that also runs KotaCart and Competer. We write our own software, pack our own first orders, and answer our own WhatsApp. Our registered address is Vedikcraft, Pital Market, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh 244001, India. If something is wrong with a piece, you will be talking to someone who can fix it.
