This page holds 56 Lord Vishnu idols from ₹240, in sizes up to 22 inch tall. Fifty-two are pure brass and 4 are aluminium. Weights go up to 9.33 kg, the middle of the range is about ₹2,415 and the largest murti is ₹21,220.
Choose the form before the size. Standing Vishnu with shankh, chakra, gada and padma is the usual mandir murti, here at 4, 4.3 and 6.6 inch. Laxmi Narayan shows Vishnu with Lakshmi and is the form many couples pick for a new home. Sheshnag (Sheshashayi) Vishnu rests on the serpent with Lakshmi at his feet; it is wider than it is tall, at 1.5 and 5.5 inch, so check shelf width. Vishnu on Garuda is the temple and entrance piece at 22 inch. One of the aluminium idols is a 9.5 inch Tirupati Balaji. Then size it. Pieces of 1.5 to 3.2 inch are for a desk, a car or a travel pooja box. For a home mandir, 4 to 6.6 inch is the range, and anything above 9 inch needs a pooja room with clear space around it.
A Vishnu murti has more fine parts than most idols: four raised hands, a crown and often a serpent hood. Lift it by the base, not by the arms. Clean the recesses with a soft brush, and use brass powder only on the smooth surfaces.
