About these pieces

A Kuber deepak is a small round brass lamp with a rim of petals, lit for Lakshmi and Kuber on Dhanteras and Diwali. Twenty-eight are brass and one is aluminium. Heights run from 0.9 inch to 8 inch, and weights from 40 g to 1 kg.

Kuber diyas are small, with sizes such as 1.5, 1.7, 2.4 and 3.1 inch, and they are usually bought in pairs or sets and placed at the mandir, the tijori or the main door. The larger sizes hold more oil and burn longer. A Kamakshi deepak is taller and stands alone beside the idol as the main lamp of the puja.

To light one, pour ghee or sesame oil to just below the rim, lay a cotton wick with its tip resting on the lip and light it. Many families light Kuber deepaks on Dhanteras evening as a prayer for prosperity. It is a tradition, and we make no promise of results.
