About this piece

This Devi idol, shown as Tara, is 33 inches tall and weighs 10,280 grams. Cast from pure brass with a stone and colour-work finish, it is sized for a temple or a large hall. The seated figure is finished with fine detail.

Keep the idol dry and dust with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners on the stone and colour work. It is a grand gift for Navratri or a temple.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
