The craft hubs

India does not make handicrafts. Its towns do. Each hub below is a whole supply chain: the families, the tools and the finishing trades that grew up around one craft.

How we add a hub

1. Visit, and buy a first lot at full price from three or four workshops.
2. Test the pieces at home for a month. Weight, finish, packing, how they survive a courier.
3. Agree a supply price and a dispatch promise with the workshops that pass.
4. Photograph, write, and list. Then open the hub here.

Moradabad is live. Saharanpur and Khurja are in testing. Workshops are selected by us after a visit and a trial lot; there is no open sign-up.
