About these pieces
Every vessel that holds water for a puja: lota, kalash, karwa, kamandal and ganga jali. Most are brass (104) and 35 are copper, with three in stainless steel and one silver plated. Sizes run from 1.5 inch to 28 inch, and weights from 40 g to 3.4 kg.
Each vessel has its job. A lota is the daily one, for offering jal to Surya, to Tulsi and to the Shivling; sizes here include 200 ml, 300 ml, 700 ml and 800 ml. Copper lotas are traditionally preferred for Surya arghya and Shiv abhishek. A kalash is for a sthapana with coconut and leaves. A karwa has a spout and is used on Karwa Chauth. A ganga jali has a lid and a handle and is for storing and carrying Gangajal. Choose the capacity you can hold steadily in both hands when it is full.
Dry these vessels upside down after use.
