About this collection
This page holds 129 copper pieces from ₹75, from small diyas to tall pieces of 30.8 inch. Everything here is listed as copper, and half of it costs ₹995 or less. The top price is ₹13,530.
Copper has two homes in an Indian house, the pooja room and the water corner. For pooja there is a copper lota in 200 ml at 3 inch and 430 ml at 3.5 inch, a 4.4 inch pooja thali, a small 2 inch hawan kund and a copper diya of 90 g. For water there is a 300 ml glass that weighs 170 g, water bottles of 11.5 and 12 inch, and a 9 inch sorahi with a blue finish. Copper is traditionally used for storing drinking water and for offering jal to Surya, and those two uses account for most of what is sold here. Weights run from 10 g to 4.95 kg.
Copper tarnishes. That is normal, not a defect. It turns dull brown in the air and can show dark spots where water sits. Rub with lemon and salt or tamarind, rinse and dry at once, and the pink colour returns. Keep only plain water in a copper vessel. Do not store milk, curd, juice, pickle or anything sour in it, because acids react with the metal. Pieces with a coloured or lacquered outside should be cleaned on the inside only. Copper suits buyers who want a lighter, warmer coloured metal than brass for the mandir, and anyone setting up a traditional water service at home.
