About this piece

This brass kadhai is made from pure brass in Moradabad and polished on the outside. At 2,200 grams, it is a heavy-bottomed wok for frying and stir-frying. The sloping sides suit a daily cooking routine.

Wash with mild soap and dry fully after each use. The kalai on the inside wears over time; get it re-coated when it thins. It is a useful gift for a new kitchen.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.
