About this piece

This large bronze handi is 5 inches high and weighs 1,120 grams. It is polished and made in Moradabad, with a broad mouth for cooking and serving. The handle is set firmly on the body.

Wash with mild soap and dry at once. Keep the kalai lining in good repair; a kalai-wala can re-coat the inside when it thins. It suits a family kitchen or a wedding gift.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Yes with kalai (tin lining) on cookware, which our kadhais and handis carry. Avoid cooking tomato, tamarind or lemon in uncoated brass. Glasses and thalis are safe for water and dry food.
