Kansa Thali and Bronze Dinnerware (Kansa ki Thali)
kansa ki thali · bronze thali · kansa thali set · kansa katori · kansa glass
About this collection
This page holds 18 kansa pieces from ₹470, all in bronze, standing 0.5 to 5.2 inch tall and weighing 60 g to 2.3 kg. It covers the whole thali, not only the plate: dinner plates of 10, 11 and 15.5 inch across, katoris of 3.5 to 4 inch, glasses and complete thali sets.
You can build a thali piece by piece or buy a set. For one person, a 10 or 11 inch plate with two or three katoris and a glass is the usual arrangement. The 15.5 inch plate is a large serving or bhojan thali. Katoris start the price range, so they are the low-cost way to try kansa before buying plates. Complete sets cost far more, and the range here goes up to ₹1,28,600 for a multi-piece set. Compare weight between listings, since a heavier plate of the same width is thicker metal.
Kansa is an alloy of copper and tin, and it has been the traditional eating metal in many Indian homes. It does darken with use. Wash by hand, dry at once, and keep it out of the dishwasher. A kansa cleaning powder or tamarind restores the colour.
