About this piece

This copper gilas, or glass, is 3.5 inches high. It is polished and made in Moradabad from copper, and suits water or chhaach at a festive thali. The rim is smooth for easy drinking.

Rinse with warm water and dry the outside with a cloth. Keep the copper dry between uses. It is a neat gift for a wedding or a festive table.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.
