About this piece

This iron table oil lamp, or samai, with a chimney, is 6.5 inches high and weighs 340 grams. Made in Moradabad from iron and polished, it suits a side table or a shelf. The chimney is shaped with clean detail.

Wipe dry after use and keep it away from water. Light oil on the iron prevents rust. It is a practical gift for a home.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
