About this piece

This bronze gilas, or glass, weighs 520 grams and is polished in Moradabad. It is made from bronze, which holds a warm colour and suits serving water or chhaach at a festive table. The rim is smooth for easy drinking.

Rinse with warm water and dry the outside with a cloth. Avoid leaving acidic drinks in it for long. It makes a good gift for a wedding or a festive thali set.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Is brass safe for cooking and eating?

Yes with kalai (tin lining) on cookware, which our kadhais and handis carry. Avoid cooking tomato, tamarind or lemon in uncoated brass. Glasses and thalis are safe for water and dry food.

Lemon and salt or Pitambari after use, rinse and dry. Dishwashers and bleach pit the metal.
