Clay diyas are for the window sills. For the mandir, the entrance and the thali you want brass diyas that come back out every Diwali. All are cast in Moradabad from pure brass, polished and lacquered. How many diyas should I light on Diwali?
Tradition says an odd number, commonly 13 or 21 across the house, with one akhand diya in front of Lakshmi that stays lit through the night. A set of 12 plus one kuber deepak covers that.
Which oil works best in a brass diya?
Ghee for the mandir diya, refined sunflower or sesame oil elsewhere. Mustard oil burns well but leaves a dark residue that is harder to clean off brass.
How do I remove oil residue from brass diyas after Diwali?
Soak in hot water with a few drops of dish liquid for ten minutes, scrub the cup with a soft brush, then rub with lemon and salt and dry at once. Store dry.
Are these the same as the diyas sold in Diwali gift boxes?
Most gift box diyas are thin stamped sheet. These are cast, so the walls are thicker and the diya sits flat without wobbling. The weight on each listing is the easy check.
