About this piece

This standing Vishnu ji idol is cast in aluminium and stands 7.7 inches high. It weighs 400 grams and is polished in Moradabad. The figure suits a home mandir shelf or a pooja corner.

Dust with a dry cloth and keep the idol dry. Aluminium scratches easily, so avoid harsh cleaners. It is a fitting gift for a Balaji devotee or a new home.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.
