About this piece

This brass Laxmi and Kuber diya, or kuber deepak, is 3 inches high and weighs 500 grams. It is pure brass, polished and made in Moradabad, and holds a lamp on a puja shelf. The figures are finished with clean detail.

Empty the oil and wipe with a dry cloth after use. Clean soot and tarnish with lemon and salt. It is a fitting gift for Dhanteras or Diwali.

The craft

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.
