About this piece

This decorative wall hanging is 4 inches high and weighs 2,120 grams. It is polished and made in Moradabad, and the Das Avatar figures are shaped in relief. It hangs flat on a pooja room wall or a hallway.

Dust with a dry cloth and keep the panel dry. Avoid damp walls and clean the relief with a soft brush. It is a meaningful gift for a pooja room or a new home.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Good to know

All Home Décor

Is it solid or hollow?

Cast brass, solid unless the listing says sheet or hollow. The weight in grams tells you; a 6 inch cast figure is usually 400 g or more.

Does brass need polishing?

Lacquered pieces stay bright with a dry cloth. Raw and antique-finish pieces develop a patina; polish with lemon and salt only if you want the shine back.

Which direction for vastu pieces?

Tortoise in the north or north east, elephant pair facing inward at the entrance, swan pair in the south west bedroom, Kamdhenu in the north east. Details are in the vastu guides.

Can it be gifted?

Yes, it ships in a rigid gift box within two working days, with a message card on request.

Will the colour match the photo?

Hand finishing varies slightly from piece to piece and photos are taken in daylight; expect small differences in shade, never in shape or size.
