About these pieces

This is a small, mixed category of table and kitchen pieces: spoons, serving ladles (karchi), salt and pepper sets and a few cutlery sets. The metals are properly mixed, so read the title. 11 are pure brass, 10 are stainless steel, 7 are wood, and there is 1 each in copper, aluminium and silver plate.

Choose the material by the job. Stainless steel spoons are the everyday choice and go into any food and any wash. Brass spoons and ladles are for serving and for the puja thali, and they look right beside brass or kansa serveware. Wooden spoons are gentle on non-stick and coated pans. Weight tells you the gauge: pieces here run from about 20 g for a light spoon to 300 g for a heavy ladle or a set.

Do not leave a brass spoon standing in curd, pickle, tamarind or lemon. Sour food reacts with unlined brass. Serve, then wash and dry the spoon.

Brass has long been used for serving and eating in Indian homes. The usual advice is to avoid leaving it in sour or acidic food, and to keep it clean and dry between uses.
Are brass spoons safe for all food?
Use them for dry, mild and sweet dishes. For pickle, curd, lemon or tamarind dishes, a steel or wooden spoon is the better choice.
How do I clean brass cutlery?
Wash by hand with dish liquid, rub with lemon and salt if it has dulled, rinse well and dry at once. Do not put brass in a dishwasher.
Do you sell a brass cutlery set?
A few sets are listed along with single spoons and ladles. The title says what is included, and the listing gives the weight.
