About this collection
This page holds 23 copper thali and pooja plates from ₹75, with listed plate sizes from 2.4 inch to 14 inch across. All 23 are copper. Weights run from 10 g to 660 g, half the range is priced at ₹230 or less, and the largest thali is ₹2,545.
Size decides what the thali can do. The 2.4 to 4.7 inch plates are small offering plates: they sit under a diya, hold kumkum and akshat, or go under a small Shivling or kalash to catch the water. A 7.6 or 8 inch plate takes a diya, a bell, a small lota and flowers, which is a full daily aarti. The 14 inch thali is for abhishek, for a havan samagri spread, or for carrying to the temple. Measure your mandir shelf before choosing the bigger ones. Rim height here is 0.4 to 2 inch; a deeper rim matters if water or milk will be poured in the plate.
Copper is traditionally used for pooja vessels, and it marks easily. Kumkum, lemon and wet flowers leave dark spots if they sit overnight. Rub the plate with lemon and salt, rinse, and dry it with a cloth instead of letting it drip dry. A copper thali for pooja is not lined with tin, so do not serve sour or salty food in it.
