Which Laxmi and Ganesh Murti Is Best for Home, Office or Shop?
Most homes choose seated Lakshmi and Ganesh, 3 to 5 inch for a shelf mandir. Posture, size, material and pair or single, with customs noted.
For a home mandir, most families choose a seated Lakshmi and a seated Ganesh, 3 to 5 inch tall for a shelf and 6 to 10 inch for a pooja room. For an office desk or shop counter, a small Ganesh or a Laxmi Ganesh pair under 4 inch is the usual pick. Customs on posture and placement differ by region and family, so treat your family priest as the authority on anything below.
Start with the space, not the idol
Measure the shelf first. An idol should leave room in front for a diya and a thali, and space above so it does not touch the mandir roof.
| Where it will sit | Height to look for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Car dashboard or work desk | Under 4 inch | A flat, wide base so it does not tip |
| Shelf mandir at home | 3 to 5 inch | Depth of the shelf, and room for a diya in front |
| Pooja room or floor mandir | 6 to 10 inch | Weight, if it stands on a wooden shelf |
| Shop counter or office reception | 4 to 8 inch | A spot above waist height, away from the cash drawer swing |
| Entrance, hall or temple | 15 inch and above | These weigh several kg. Fix the place before delivery. |
Seated or standing Lakshmi at home
A commonly held tradition is that Lakshmi at home should be seated, usually on a lotus. The idea behind it is that a seated figure stays, while a standing one is about to leave. Many families follow this. Many others keep a standing Lakshmi, and standing forms are usual in several temple traditions.
So can you keep a standing Lakshmi idol at home? There is no single rule that every household accepts. If your family has a view, follow it. If not, ask your priest. A seated idol is the choice that suits most households’ customs. Our small Lakshmi idols run from 1.1 to 3.6 inch for shelf mandirs and desks.
Which Ganesh for home, office or business
- Home. A seated Ganesh is the common choice. Many families also prefer the trunk turned to the idol’s left, as this form is regarded as the easier one to keep at home.
- Office desk. A small seated Ganesh under 4 inch. Keep it on a clean, raised spot, not beside the dustbin or under a shelf of shoes.
- Shop or business. Lakshmi and Ganesh are kept together in most North Indian shops, often near the cash counter or the account books. Some traders prefer a standing Ganesh at a workplace. That is a custom, not a rule.
These are traditions, not promises of a result. For low cost options, see Ganesha idols under ₹1,000.
Pair or single
For Diwali puja, a Laxmi Ganesh pair is what most North Indian homes use. Ganesh is placed to the left of Lakshmi as you face them. For daily worship, a single idol of the deity your family prays to is enough.
Our small Laxmi Ganesh pairs start at ₹540, in 2 to 3.6 inch and 160 g to 1.26 kg. The wider Laxmi Ganesh range for Diwali goes from 2 to 18 inch.
Brass, aluminium or clay
| Material | Good for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Brass | A permanent mandir idol, used every year | Heavier and costlier. Compare by weight, not by shine. |
| Aluminium | Car dashboards, desks, lower budgets | Light, so it needs a firm base or adhesive pad in a car |
| Clay | Homes that buy a new pair each Diwali and immerse it | Fragile, and not meant to be washed |
Most of our Lakshmi and Laxmi Ganesh idols are pure brass, with a smaller number in aluminium.
Can we keep a Hanuman statue at home
Yes, a great many households keep Hanuman in the home mandir. Customs around it vary. Some families avoid placing the idol in a bedroom. Some prefer a seated or blessing form at home over a flying or fierce one. Panchmukhi Hanuman is often placed near the entrance. These are family and regional practices, and your priest is the right person to settle a doubt. Our small Hanuman idols are 2 to 3.2 inch, sized for a small mandir, desk or car.
