Brass Stand Diya and Kamal Deepak (Standing Diya)
stand diya · kamal deepak · dandi deepak · standing diya · pital ka deepak · kuber diya
About these pieces
A stand diya is a diya on a foot or a stem, so the flame sits above the mandir floor instead of on it. The kamal deepak is the lotus version, with petals around the oil cup. 101 are pure brass and 1 is aluminium.
Height decides the use. The low ones, up to about 6 inch, go inside the mandir in front of the idol and are the daily lamps. Dandi diyas on a long stem, around 14.5 inch, stand beside the shrine and light it from the side. The tallest pieces, with a cock or a hen finial, are floor lamps for a pooja room or an entrance at festival time. Weights run from about 60 g to 6.5 kg. For anything tall, a heavy base is the safety feature, so compare weights before you compare prices.
Many designs come in numbered sizes. The number is the maker's size code, so always confirm the inch height on the listing.
