About this piece

This Tirupati Balaji idol is 23 inches high and weighs 11,300 grams. Cast from pure brass and polished by hand in Moradabad, it suits a temple entrance, a large home mandir, or a shop that opens to devotees. The figure is finished to hold its detail at close range.

Wipe with a dry cloth and clean the base with lemon and salt when it dulls. Keep it dry and out of the rain. It is a meaningful gift for a Balaji devotee or a new home.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
