About this piece

This Krishna idol with flute is 12 inches high and weighs 2,300 grams. The pure brass is polished and made in Moradabad, with the flute and crown finished in fine detail. It fits a pooja room altar or a shelf in a child's room.

Dust with a dry cloth and keep the idol away from damp. Lemon and salt clear tarnish from the detail; rinse and dry thoroughly. A fitting choice for Janmashtami or a birthday gift for a child.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
