About this piece

This kalpavriksha tree showpiece is 19 inches tall and weighs 2,600 grams. It is polished and made in Moradabad, with leaves and branches shaped by hand. The tree suits a living room corner or a puja alcove.

Dust gently with a soft brush around the leaves and wipe the trunk with a dry cloth. Keep it away from damp. It is a gracious gift for a housewarming or a wedding.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.

Good to know

All Home Décor

Is it solid or hollow?

Cast brass, solid unless the listing says sheet or hollow. The weight in grams tells you; a 6 inch cast figure is usually 400 g or more.

Does brass need polishing?

Lacquered pieces stay bright with a dry cloth. Raw and antique-finish pieces develop a patina; polish with lemon and salt only if you want the shine back.

Which direction for vastu pieces?

Tortoise in the north or north east, elephant pair facing inward at the entrance, swan pair in the south west bedroom, Kamdhenu in the north east. Details are in the vastu guides.

Can it be gifted?

Yes, it ships in a rigid gift box within two working days, with a message card on request.

Will the colour match the photo?

Hand finishing varies slightly from piece to piece and photos are taken in daylight; expect small differences in shade, never in shape or size.

Where does a 19 inch tree suit best?

At 19 inch it stands well on a console or entrance table, where it is seen from the door.

How should the branches be dusted?

A soft brush or dry cloth gets into the branches best, and a damp cloth should be dried at once.
