About this piece
This hanging oil lamp, or deepak, is 12.5 inches high and weighs 960 grams. It is polished and made in Moradabad, and the lamp hangs on a chain for a temple or a home entrance. The shape is finished evenly.
Empty the oil and wipe the lamp with a dry cloth after use. Avoid scouring pads on the surface. It is a festive gift for Diwali or a temple.
The craft
Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

How it is made
Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.
Care, shipping and returns
Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.
