About this collection
This page holds 162 small diyas from ₹90, in heights from 0.5 to 3.8 inch. 130 are pure brass. The rest are 14 in aluminium, 10 in wood, 4 in copper and 4 in iron, and each listing names its material. They weigh from 10 g to 840 g.
Choose by how the diya will be used. For a daily lamp in a shelf mandir, a plain brass diya of 1 to 1.5 inch holds one wick and a spoon of ghee, and half the diyas here cost ₹270 or less. For a longer burn, look at the small akhand diyas, listed at 1.7 and 3.4 inch, which have a deeper cup. A panch mukhi diya takes five wicks for aarti. Table diyas, at 1, 1.4 and 3.5 inch, stand on a foot so the flame is lifted off the shelf. Crystal diyas and painted iron diyas are the decorative ones for Diwali tables. Numbers such as No. 2 or No. 11 in a name are the maker's size codes, so go by the inches. A heavier diya with a wide foot is harder to tip, which matters in a small mandir with a low roof.
Material changes the care. Brass and copper take ghee or oil and clean up with hot water, then lemon and salt. Painted iron should only be wiped, never scrubbed. A wooden diya should not be left burning unattended, and oil should not be poured straight onto the wood.
