About this piece
This brass hanging temple bell, or ghanti, is pure brass and polished in Moradabad. It is sized for a temple entrance, and gives a clear, deep ring when struck. The bell hangs from a hook at the door.
Wipe with a dry cloth after each use and keep the bell dry. Clean tarnish with lemon and salt, then rinse. It is a fitting gift for a temple or a wedding.
The craft
Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.
Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made
Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.
