Buy a big bell by weight, then by height. Two hanging bells here are both 10.5 inch tall, yet one weighs 3.12 kg and the other 6.34 kg. The heavier casting has thicker walls, a lower note and a longer ring, and it costs more because brass is priced by the kilo. For a pooja room or a home temple door, the 8 to 9 inch bells at about 1.9 kg are loud enough. For a society mandir or a temple entrance, look at 12 inch and above, including the 17 inch ghanta. The 8 inch pieces at the bottom of the price range are tall hand and pooja bells, not hanging ones, so read the name.
Plan the fixing before you order. A bell of several kilos needs a steel hook or beam anchored into concrete or solid timber, never into plaster or a false ceiling. Hang it so the clapper rope is within reach and the bell has room to swing clear of the wall. The weight on the listing is the number to give your fabricator.
