Brass Peacock Showpieces (Mor Statue)
brass peacock · mor · mayur · peacock pair · pital ka mor · peacock statue
About these pieces
The peacock is India's national bird and one of the oldest motifs in Moradabad metalwork. 27 are pure brass and 2 are aluminium. Many are sold as pairs, cast to face each other.
Decide between a single bird and a pair. A single peacock of 7 to 9 inch works on a side table or a shelf. A pair needs a wider surface, such as a console or the two ends of a mantel, and the large 17.5 and 22 inch pairs are listed for the living room and the entrance. These are heavy pieces. One 17.5 inch pair weighs 8.84 kg, and the range goes up to about 10.39 kg, so the surface must be strong and level.
The long tail is the part most likely to be knocked. Lift a peacock by the body and the base, never by the tail or the neck.
