About this piece

This iron agarbatti stand holds a loban or dhoop cone above the table, and the base is polished to keep the iron clean. It stands 3 inches high and weighs 230 grams. Made in Moradabad, it is sturdy enough to stay put in a busy puja room.

Wipe it dry after the smoke settles and keep it away from water. Light oil on the iron stops rust in humid months. A good pick for a dhoop dani set on a puja shelf or for a Diwali gift.

The craft

Moradabad. Cast, hammered and lacquered by hand, for three hundred years.

Sand cast, hand engraved, lacquer finished.

How it is made

Brass is melted and poured into sand moulds, cooled, then turned on a lathe to true the shape. Engravers cut the pattern by hand with a hammer and chisel. The piece is polished on a buffing wheel and sealed with a clear lacquer so it stays bright without weekly cleaning.

Care, shipping and returns

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep away from detergents and damp. Handmade pieces vary slightly in finish, that is the point.

Dispatch in 1 to 3 working days from India by tracked courier. Shipping is charged by parcel weight and shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes, if any, are collected by the courier on delivery.
