Copper gets very hot and turns black where the flame touches it. Always stand the kund on a brick, a tile or a metal plate, never straight on a wooden chowki or the floor. Let it cool fully, tip out the ash, then scrub with tamarind or lemon and salt to bring back the copper colour.
