The design is the lion capital of Sarnath: four lions back to back on a round abacus with the chakra. Most pieces here are the lath form, where the lions stand on a pillar shaft instead of a flat base. For a working desk, 4.5 to 6.5 inch is the practical size; it stays below a monitor and does not crowd the table. For a cabin shelf, a reception counter or a school office, look at 10 to 13.5 inch. The 23 inch and taller pillars are floor or pedestal pieces for a hall or an institution. After height, compare weight. There are two 6 inch pillars at 560 g and 660 g, and two 6.5 inch ones at 1.54 kg and 2.54 kg. The heavier one has a solid shaft and base, will not tip when a file brushes it, and costs more.
